To Be of Service opens today in New York, and the NY Times said:
“Hope runs throughout much of ‘To Be of Service,’ and its overriding point is well made: These dogs are saving the lives of those who’ve sacrificed so much. Every person profiled here deserves an immense amount of respect. Every animal, too.”
-The New York Times

From Academy-nominated director Josh Aronson and featuring a new song by Jon Bon Jovi, To Be of Serviceis a documentary about veterans suffering from PTSD who are paired with a service dog to help them heal, when traditional treatments fall short. Returning home
for these vets is often plagued by depression and a painful disconnect from the world they once knew. Family, old friends and jobs seem foreign, and newly returned warriors often struggle to return to a normal civilian life.
To Be Of Service follows these warriors after they get their dog as this deeply bonded friendship restores independence and the ability to love for the men and women who so courageously served our country.
To Be of Service is about the enduring costs of war told through the lives of veterans of the Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan wars. We follow vets with PTSD who, after years of struggle with substance abuse, suicide attempts, talk therapy, and prescription medications have finally come to find that bonding with a service dog helps them find a way back to independence, emotion and love. Almost miraculously, through the unconditional acceptance and love of their service dogs, our veterans are able to re-establish their lives and family connections in a way that is uplifting and deeply moving.
